Ward rounds:
Monday to Thursday 7am in 1 West nursing hub
Physio / trauma bookings nurse / NUM may attend
Residents prepare lists
Google drive (outstanding inpatients/outpatients and consults)
Audit list (all inpatients/consults)
Ward round after – can split round if suitable but there is only 1 ward resident/day so consider this if many new patients on different wards
Friday 6:30am paper round in ortho office then audit meeting at 7am
On call Footscray registrar + consultant (or two) does ward round, while rest of registrars go straight to consultant clinic
Weekends
Only 1 registrar on per campus (Footscray and Sunshine/JK/Willi)
Generally round at 7am Saturday at Footscray to get to theatre by 8
Sunday no dedicated list but generally can start operating at 8:30 so round at 7am again
Theatre/DPU:
North-east side of level 1
Staffed 24/7 but only 1 emergency theatre afterhours
6 theatres total, main ortho theatres 1 and 2 (east side of theatre)
Only dedicated regular trauma list out of hours is Saturday all day
Loan gear section immediately on left after entering theatre complex

Can template on computers in theatre 1 and 2
DPU on level 1 in centre of hospital (just before theatre)
Theatre will usually not bring around elective patients from DPU until consent is completed and correct (also sometimes if not marked)
Consent forms valid for 12 months
Phone consent acceptable for CAT 1 patients
All CAT2/3 patients cannot be booked without written consent
ED

Main fishbowl in centre with all forms and majority of registrars/consultants
Also has a small fast track section and yellow side for lower acuity patients
Short stay unit on level 3 opposite 3B
3x resus bays
Will generally do wrist/ankle reductions themselves before calling us
Will generally fully work up NOFs prior to referral (templated XRs, FI block, bloods/G&H, ECG, CXR, IDC)

Almost completely electronic now except for outpatient imaging requests, which are still paper forms

Orthogeriatrics (only at Footscray)
3 teams (OGS 1/2/3 – individual consultant/registrar/resident for each)
Also cover an acute aged care (AAC) bed card each
Will only accept fractured femurs (proximal/shaft/distal)
