At Footscray site on tuesdays ( fracture clinic) we have created 4 extra CT orthopaedic urgent outpatients spots to allow patient who require urgent scans ( requiring surgery or urgent reviews on same or next day).
For these to be approved the ortho reg just needs to call CT directly 56184- not the registrar ( they are not aware of the worklist load and we are trying to reduce phone traffic to them). Ortho Dr will then inform the CT radiographer about the patient and urgency and CT Radiographer will notify them if we can accommodate same day or not (depends on our inpatient load, procedures and how many extra we have already done).
If patient can be accommodated just write their name on the CT board and let reception know they are coming ( also alert patient if there may be a big wait).
Once patient arrives get it protocoled as normal and proceed with scan.
If patient cannot be accommodated on the same day due to our workload- then there are specific spots for these patients on wed, Thursday and Friday mornings at FH- the patient can come back on one of these days to get the scans done in time for ortho.
