Triaging Protocol

GP referrals

  • To be done by Orthopaedic registrars
    • on paper every Tuesday and Friday morning around fracture and consultant clinics (adult referrals)
    • digitally every Monday and Thursday morning around fracture clinic (paeds referrals)
  • Necessary to add: name of triaging clinician, date of triage, diagnosis, timeline for review, what is needed, clinic sequence
    • Timeline: specific date (e.g. 19/11/24) or time period (e.g. 1-2/52)
    • What is needed: guide the interns/HMOs on what orders to make (e.g. “out of cast then scaphoid XR” or “wrist XROA in slab” or “WB ankle XROA”)
    • Clinic sequence:
      • Plaster tech then radiology for X-ray then doctor review = P/R/D
      • Radiology for XROA then doctor review = R/D
      • Doctor review only = D
  • Admin will then transcribe the clinic sequence onto the booking notes so it is visible when the patient comes to clinic to the reception staff upon check-in and to the ASC nurses on Ambulatory Organiser on EMR

EMR referrals

  • To be done by Vfrac APP clinicians daily on EMR
    • As per Vfrac protocols (see Vfrac page)
  • Important to add clinical sequence into “booking notes” (see above examples). Admin will also transcribe as above.
