About Us
Lower West Ward is a busy surgical ward located in the Williamstown Hospital. We care for a mix of same day and multi day stay patients. We are unique in that we care for both of these patient types on the same ward. As such we have a very high turnover of patients. We have an elective cohort of patients under the units, Orthopaedics, Urology, General Surgery, and ENT. In addition to these elective patients, we also have patients transferred from the other WH sites to assist with access and flow in times of high demand.
We pride ourselves in being friendly, organised and efficient. We work very closely as an MDT, to provide the best experience possible for our patients.
The Physio staff aim to be present on the morning ward rounds. Following the ward round we have a huddle with the PT, OT and NIC to discuss progress and set priorities for the day.
We care for younger patients who are at least 14 years of age and over 50kg. The campus selection procedure is currently being updated to reflect this. We request that a parent/carer stay overnight to support these patients. We will aim to provide a single room or cohort two younger patients.
