Outpatient Joint Replacement Assessment

Main bed manager number (for all bed requests, all campuses): 0481 912 934

  • If they don’t pick up, text them asking to call you back
  • Need to be involved for:
    • Weekend outpatient trauma admits (even if booked with bookings)
    • Admissions from clinic
    • Urgent bed requests

Peri-op

  • Ann Williams is peri-op manager: 0410 641 801
  • Footscray
    • Bookings nurse for trauma (Jessy Doherty) will need approval from Ann to get additional trauma lists during the week
    • Once a list is offered, best to put it under a consultant’s name (Dan Sydenham usually happy for this to be under his name) while trying to find another consultant to staff/ supervise the list
    • In general, speak to consultant on call for the week first. If not available to staff list, then speak to trauma fellow or first year consultant first to see if they have availability to staff the list
  • Joan Kirner/ Sunshine
    • No approval required from Ann Williams to bring outpatients to Joan Kirner for theatre on the weekend. Just speak with Theatre in charge, Anaesthetist and Bed manager directly.
  • Other things Ann needs to be involved for:
    • Approval to open up DPU/DOSA on weekend
    • Any other peri-operative issues – e.g. access issues, approval issues. As per escalation pathway

    • Working hours:
      • Mon- Thurs: 9AM- 5PM
      • Fri: 7AM-3:30PM
  • Trauma bookings: Jessy Doherty: 0481 466 533 Jessy.Doherty@wh.org.au
    • Working hours:
      • Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri: 7AM-3:30PM. Joins handover in the office and updates the team on last minute trauma lists she has been able to get. She also will liase with Ann Williams after handover to advocate for theatre access if there is a need. Will also join ward round if available.
      • Tues: 9:30AM- 6PM. Late start to accommodate fracture clinic and to be able to join end of clinic handover of newly booked trauma outpatients for theatre. Important for registrar on call on Tuesday to directly liase with Ann Williams re access for theatre on Tuesday PM. (Often these lists are given ad hoc on the Tuesday if Ortho trauma load is high)

Elective Bookings Process:

  • Elective lists are usually booked 2 weeks in advance. You find the dynamic elective spreadsheet on S drive: \Client\S$\WH – Elective Booking Service\UNIT BOOKINGS\2023 Unit Spreadsheets. Then go to ‘ORTHOPAEDICS 2023’. You will need to log into Core Follow Me to access the drive.

    • In Hours – Nurse-In-Charge at 93930350 during Operating hours 0700hrs- 1930hrs Monday – Friday.
    • Afterhours Coordinator 0404864289 from 1930hrs- 0700hrs (Monday-Friday) and 24hrs on weekend. Leave a message to the Coordinator and they can handover to the Nurse In Charge the following business day.
  • Surgical List Order can be changed with the help of the SLN
  • NOTES
    • Thursday Ben Johnson PM Trauma lists are half elective/ half trauma lists. There are usually 1-2 small elective cases or 1 big elective case booked to the list. These cases will be on the ‘ORTHO TRAUMA 2023’ spreadsheet.
    • Jessy and Aleks present following week’s elective case bookings at XR meeting and discuss previous week’s cancellations
