High-Risk Pre-Operative OptimiSation Clinic (HRPOOC) at Footscray Hospital.

This pilot program, running till June 2025, aims to improve surgical outcomes for high-risk patients.

The HRPOOC clinic offers a comprehensive pre-surgical assessment by a multidisciplinary team including a Geriatrician, Internal Medicine Physician, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Nurse, and Dietician.

(Pilot clinic from September 2024 to June 2025)

When and where?

Footscray hospital level 2 outpatient clinic every Thursday afternoon. 

Current capacity to see 4 patients per clinic. 

Who and What we do?

HRPOOC includes a Geriatrician, Internal medicine physician, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Nursing and Dietician.

We provide comprehensive assessment of geriatric syndromes (including cognitive and functional), optimisation of medical comorbidities and medical opinion / shared decision making in whom benefits of surgery or post operative outcomes are uncertain. 

Discussion of peri-operative goals of care with patient and discharge planning in advance. 

Support role for surgeon and anaesthetist in peri-operative care and planning.
