Adult fracture clinic

  • Every Tuesday, all-day, at Footscray Hospital, level 1 outpatients.
  • Occurs alongside post-op wound clinic (run by HMOs) in the morning and then in isolation in the PM
  • Attended by all registrars (unless attending a list) and free HMOs in the afternoon
  • Normally 140-200 patients per day
  • Can refer directly to physiotherapy “walk-in” clinic

Paediatric fracture clinic

  • Every Monday (supervised by Mr Harris) and Thursday (supervised by Mr Johnson) mornings, at Joan-Kirner Hospital, ground level outpatients
  • Attended by all registrars (unless attending a list) and rostered HMOs (Sunshine + Williamstown)

Consultant clinic

  • Every Friday morning at Footscray Hospital, level 1 outpatients.
  • Rooms predominantly taken by consultants
  • Registrars to assist consultants in seeing their patients (if rooms are free), sit in with a consultant (if rooms are not free), and complete triaging.
  • Whichever registrar presents x-ray meeting on Friday morning will go to Clinic D at 10am to see 1-2 patients with hip OA as part of the THA approach RCT recruitment.
  • One HMO will be allocated to go to Clinic D to complete campus suitability assessment for patients who are going on the waiting list for a joint replacement.

EMR flow in clinic

  • Open EMR, BossNET, and Synapse
  • Picked up a patient’s stickers from the box
  • On Ambulatory organiser, make the patient “In room” and click your room onto their name
  • Write EMR notes under the appropriate note type: “Orthopaedic Outpatient note” or “Ortho – Fracture outpatient note” or “Ortho – Paeds Fracture Outpatient note”
  • Order appropriate imaging request, tech orders, and follow-up as required on EMR
  • On Ambulatory organiser, “Check out” the patient and either discharge or organiser appointment at a later date (Note: if booking a patient for surgery, they will be ‘discharged’ on EMR)

New patient clinic

  • Start 1 December
  • 7 new patients
  • On day of business meeting
  • First patient to arrive at 9.45am

Outpatient Bradmas

  • Every patient will have Bradmas stickers printed on check in and placed in the box at the back of clinic in order of attendance.

Outpatient Triage Guidelines

  • Registrars will triage new GP referrals to fracture clinic and consultant clinics
  • Advanced practice physiotherapists will triage new internal Western Health referrals to fracture clinic or consultant clinic if the registrar has already given a plan for the patient
