Length: 6–12 months

Sites: Western Health – Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown hospitals, with additional private operating sessions.

The fellowship focuses on direct anterior approach hip replacement and hip arthroscopy. There is additional exposure to kinematically aligned knee replacement via the subvastus approach, robotic-assisted partial knee replacement, and shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty. Further experience in shoulder, hip, knee and foot and ankle surgery is available through other departmental surgeons.

Duties include assisting in theatre, orthopaedic clinics at Footscray Hospital, and all unit clinical and academic meetings. Suitable candidates have the opportunity for independent operating in the public hospital across elective and trauma cases, in both adults and paediatrics.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn and perform the direct anterior approach to the hip
  • Learn and perform hip arthroscopy, including impingement surgery and labral repair
  • Prepare a minimum of one paper for publication within six months and present at a national or international meeting

Requirements: eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and FRACS (Orth) or equivalent.
